Sikorsky CH-124 Sea King

The Sikorsky CH-124 Sea King is a twin engine, single rotor (5 blades), shipborne Under-sea Surveilance and Warfare (USW) helicopter. The CH-124 was originally purchased in 1961 as a Anti-Submarine Warfare helicopter (ASW). Forty two Sea Kings were purchased and 41 are still around. It was designed to operate in all weather, day or night with detection, navigation and weapons systems allowing it to search, locate and destroy submarines. As seen in the picture at the bottom of the page it has the ability to float and can fold up its rotor blades. There have been a few modifications to the CH-124 such as engine intake shields to prevent foreign object damage and it has surface search radar. The Sea King can also be used for surface suveilance, SAR and passenger transporation. Like the CH-113 it is nearing the end of its' days in service.
